Before You Build It... Will They Actually Pay?

Testing your idea isn't just smart... It's essential to building the life and freedom you want.

Hey Beautiful Mama! 👋

Quick story for you…

When Stephen and I were first starting out in business, we thought we had the next "can't-miss" idea.

We were absolutely certain it would fly off the shelves.

We told all our friends about it.

We built the entire thing from scratch.

We poured in our hearts, our savings, and more late nights than I care to remember.

And then…

Crickets.

(Like, actual silence. Not even a polite "maybe later" from people we thought would love it.)

It felt exactly like throwing a birthday party and nobody showing up. You spend all day making cupcakes and hanging decorations…

And then realize you forgot to invite people who actually wanted to come.

That sting of disappointment?

It taught us one of the most powerful lessons we've ever learned about business (and life):

Never build in a bubble. Test first. Always!

Today, I want to show you how to do that….

The simple, not-scary way.

Solve Valuable Problems, Not Just Any Problems

Business really boils down to one fundamental truth:

Solve real problems for real people.

Not just problems you think are important.

Problems people know are important…

Because they're already willing to pull out their wallets to fix them.

There's a universe of difference between a "cute idea" and a valuable solution.

And the only reliable way to know which one you have?

You test it before you build it.

Focus on Solutions That Align With Leverage

Here's what we're aiming for:

  • Create solutions that solve real, pressing problems people actually feel.

  • Use leverage (your time, tech, trust, and traffic) to spread that solution further.

  • Make sure it's something that can scale… Not just to friends and family, but to complete strangers too.

A little image that helps me see this clearly:

Imagine trying to plant a garden.

You could dig up your whole backyard, guessing where the seeds will grow best.

Or you could plant a few seeds in different sunny spots…

And water only the ones that actually sprout.

Testing is like planting those first few seeds.

It saves you from doing a whole lot of backbreaking digging for nothing.

Before You Build It, Test It

Here's your action step this week:

Before you create the product, the course, the service, the whatever… do one tiny test.

Here's exactly how:

1. Make a mini offer

  • Don't build the whole thing yet.

  • Describe it in one simple paragraph.
("Hey, I'm thinking of offering a guide to simplify your family meal planning. Would you be interested for $5?")

  • Keep it lightweight and low-pressure.

2. Ask people outside your inner circle

  • Not just your mom and best friend (who love you too much to be objective).

  • Find a Facebook group, a LinkedIn community, or a local gathering.

  • Present your mini-offer conversationally, not like a sales pitch.

3. Watch what happens

  • If even a few people say "yes" and actually pay (even a tiny amount), that's pure gold.

  • If no one bites, try tweaking your message or rethinking the offer before you invest any more precious time.

Remember: If strangers are willing to pay even a small amount, you're onto something real.

(And if not… better to find out now while it's still light and easy, not after months of heavy lifting and heartache.)

You're Closer Than You Think

Beautiful Mama, hear this:

You're not lacking ideas.

You're not lacking talent.

You're not even lacking time.

You just need the right next step.

And that step is surprisingly simple: test.

Not perfectly. Not someday. This week.

Test tiny. Learn fast. Build better.

I'm so excited to see what seeds you plant that will grow into something beautiful for your family's future.

Testing isn't just a business strategy…

It's a way to honor your time and energy by focusing them where they'll truly bear fruit.

With belief and gratitude,

Chelsey 💛
