How To Make Scary Decisions Faster & Easier

Facing tough choices? Here’s how to make them quicker and stress-free

Hey Beautiful Mama,

Chelsey here again! 👋

As you know, I've been writing Beautiful Mama for the last six months, and with our recent move to a new platform, I'm doubling down on my personal brand!

Stephen and I are still very much a team, but you'll be hearing directly from me moving forward!

And this week, we’re diving into something that we all face every day…

Making Big Decisions!

Some days, it feels like you're making a hundred little choices, and then, out of nowhere, the big one hits.

Ever been there?

I get it.

I was just like you not long ago, standing at the edge of a life-changing decision, with no clue which direction to take.

Stephen and I were making one of the biggest choices in our lives (more on that in a future issue—stay tuned!), and let me tell you, it wasn’t easy.

But you know what?

We realized that decision-making, whether big or small, doesn’t have to feel so overwhelming.

Today, I’m sharing the exact framework Stephen and I used to push through fear, silence doubts, and finally move forward. (And you can too!)

Small Decisions, Big Stress?

If you’re like me, sometimes even the small decisions feel big.

Which coffee?

What’s for dinner?

But here’s a trick… you can make decisions faster by breaking them down.

Let’s start with the 1-3-1 Rule:
1️⃣ Identify the problem
2️⃣ Come up with three possible solutions
3️⃣ Pick one and go

This strategy works wonders for those everyday questions.

Not just for you—try using it with your kids or team at work.

Stephen and I use it all the time with our boys when they’re asking for something (yep, like going to that big concert or event!).

It gets them thinking and helps them find their own answers.

Overthinking? Here’s Your Lifeline…
The 40-70 Rule

For those of us who love to overanalyze (guilty!), here’s something we use when we feel stuck in indecision.

If you have less than 40% of the information, don’t decide yet.

But if you’re still trying to gather more info once you’re over 70%, it’s time to stop and decide.

Why?

Because waiting for all the answers keeps you stuck.

You’ll never have every piece of the puzzle, and sometimes, it’s about trusting your gut and taking action.

Move forward, learn, and adjust along the way.

The Big Decisions That Keep You Up at Night

These are the decisions that really test us. Tossing and turning, talking it out with friends and mentors, playing tug-of-war in your mind.

Stephen and I were right there recently, standing on the edge of a major business choice.

The fear of making the wrong move can feel paralyzing.

Sound familiar?

Here’s what helped us:
1️⃣ Identify the decision
2️⃣ Define what success looks like
3️⃣ Leverage your strengths
4️⃣ Brainstorm options
5️⃣ Choose the one that aligns with your values and vision
6️⃣ Act with confidence

And the most important part?

Don’t be afraid to lean on your strengths or ask for help.

Stephen and I always come back to our core values…

Our family.
Our goals.
And where we’re headed.

Trust Your Gut, Mama

At the end of the day, you can’t control how others react to your decisions.

What you can control is how you feel about them.

Trust that inner voice, and don’t let fear hold you back from making choices that align with your purpose.

You’ve got this!

Action Step This Week

Here’s a challenge…

What’s one decision you’ve been putting off?

Use one of these frameworks to tackle it head-on.

Whether it’s the 1-3-1 Rule for something small or the 40-70 Rule for something bigger, take action and see how it feels to move forward with confidence.
