The 80% Rule That Saved My Sanity (And Can Save Yours)

Simple steps to start automating your business (and your life) without the overwhelm.

Hey Beautiful Mama! 👋

Real talk for a second...

When Stephen and I first started building our business, he would constantly say things like…

"We should really automate this process!"

And I'd smile and nod politely...

...then go right back to doing everything manually because, honestly?

It just felt faster to do it myself.

Until it didn't.

I still remember that Tuesday afternoon like it was yesterday.

There I was, trying to respond to customer emails with one hand, update social posts with another, mentally plan dinner, and somehow keep our very energetic toddler from redecorating the walls with markers…

All at the exact same time!

It felt like trying to juggle flaming swords...

While riding a unicycle...

On a tightrope...

In a windstorm.

And in that moment of complete overwhelm, it finally hit me:

I wasn't building freedom at all.

I was just building a busier, more exhausting version of the life I was trying to escape.

That's when automation stopped sounding like some fancy tech term…

And started feeling absolutely necessary.

Not just to grow our business…

But to protect the very life we were growing it for.

If you've ever felt like you're just one dropped ball away from everything crashing down…

This one's especially for you.

Let's breathe some much-needed margin back into your life, mama.

Protect Your Time as Fiercely as Your Income

Building a business is incredible.

But what's the point of creating income if it costs you the very thing you were chasing in the first place…

Your time?

You can always make more money.

You can never make more time.

So from now on, we protect our hours like they're priceless…

Because they truly are.

Move From Doing the Work to Designing Systems

Here's the fundamental shift:

Instead of doing everything yourself, you design systems that do it for you.

Instead of adding more to your already full plate, you build a conveyor belt that moves things forward…

Even when you're not hands-on.

Instead of waiting until you're completely overwhelmed, you start small right now.

Think of it like planting an orchard instead of harvesting apples by hand every single day.

At first, it's a little more work upfront.

But pretty soon, you'll have trees that produce fruit season after season…

Without you having to hustle for every bite!

Find One Task This Week to Automate or Delegate

This week's action step is super simple…

But incredibly powerful:

Pick ONE repetitive task you do each week.

Then either automate it or delegate it.

Some practical ideas to get you started:

Automation:

  • Use Zapier to connect your Instagram to Facebook (post once, share everywhere!)

  • Set up an email auto-responder for your most common customer questions

  • Schedule your emails or social posts in advance using free tools like Later or Buffer

Delegation:

  • Hire a VA on Fiverr to update your blog or social posts (starts at just $15-25!)

  • Outsource your basic graphic design needs (even just a few posts at first!)

  • Find someone to handle basic inbox sorting for you (a game-changer for peace of mind)

Here's the mindset shift that changed everything for me:

If someone (or something) can do a task 80% as well as you…

That's more than enough to get your time back!

You don't need perfect.

You just need progress.

Every single hour you buy back is an hour you can reinvest into your family, your health, your bigger vision…

That's the real return on investment.

You're Allowed To Let It Be Easier

I know letting go of control feels scary sometimes.

It feels vulnerable.

(And if you're anything like me, you might secretly believe no one can do it exactly the way you would.)

But guess what?

You're not failing if you automate.

You're not lazy if you outsource.

You're not selfish if you protect your peace.

You're leading.

You're designing.

You're thriving.

One tiny system at a time.

I'm so excited to see how much space opens up in your life and business as you begin to build systems that work for you, instead of you always working for them.

The peace that comes from knowing things are moving forward even when you're fully present with your family?

It's absolutely priceless.

You've got this, Mama.

Your thriving family legacy starts with building a life that leaves room for YOU, too.

With love and belief,

Chelsey 💛
