The GRIT Framework That Transformed My Marriage and Business
Discover how to strengthen your relationships while building your business dreams
Hey Beautiful Mama!
It's Chelsey here! đź’•
Today, I want to talk about something we don’t discuss enough as entrepreneurial mamas…
Building strong relationships while chasing our dreams.
You know that guilt that creeps in when you’re working late, and your partner gives you that look?
Or when you feel torn between growing your dreams and nurturing your relationships?
I get it, because I’ve been there too.
Last year I sat down with Kathryn Gordon, and she shared something that completely shifted my perspective.
She introduced me to the concept of GRIT in relationships, and mama, it's not what you think!
Let me break down this powerful framework that could transform your relationships while you build your empire…
Let's get into it…
G is for God (or Greater Purpose)
Here's something powerful Kathryn shared…
Every strong relationship needs an anchor bigger than itself.
For some, it's faith.
For others, it's a shared vision or purpose.
The key is having something that connects you beyond the day-to-day hustle.
Stephen and I learned this early in our journey.
When we were just starting Rainmakers, we made a decision to anchor our relationship in something bigger than our business goals.
It's what keeps us grounded when things get crazy!
R is for Resolve
This one hit home for me.
Kathryn talked about how easy it is to check out when things get tough.
But here's the truth…
The grass isn't greener on the other side; it's greener where you water it!
Think of your relationship like your business.
You wouldn't abandon your business at the first sign of trouble, right?
You'd problem-solve, pivot, and persist.
That same grit belongs in your relationships too!
I is for Invest
This might be my favorite part!
Kathryn shared how she stops whatever she's doing to help her husband pick out his outfit when he asks…
Even after years of marriage!
It's these small moments of investment that build strong foundations.
In our own journey, Stephen and I've learned that investment doesn't always mean grand gestures.
Sometimes it's as simple as putting down your phone during dinner or taking five minutes to really listen about their day.
T is for Together
Now here is the big shift…
You've got to be on the same team!
Kathryn shared a story about feeling frustrated when her husband would call from fancy hotels while she was exhausted at home with the kids.
Sound familiar?
The breakthrough came when they realized they needed to tackle challenges together instead of keeping score.
Just like in business, you're stronger when you're working as a team!
Your Action Steps This Week:
Create Your Anchor: Sit down with your partner and identify what bigger purpose connects you. Maybe even create a simple prayer or mantra together that reminds you of your shared vision.
Practice Small Investments: Choose three tiny moments each day to fully invest in your relationship. Put down your phone, look them in the eye, and really be present.
Team Check-In: Ask your partner: "On a scale of 1-10, how much do we feel like a team right now? What would make it a 10?" Have an honest conversation about the answer.
Set Boundaries: Establish clear work hours and relationship time. When you're working, be all in. When you're with family, be all in there too.
Remember, mama, building a business doesn't mean sacrificing your relationships.
In fact, with the right mindset and tools, growing your business can actually strengthen your relationships as you grow together.
With love and gratitude,
Chelsey Diaz
