What I Learned About Leadership from 3 Days with John Maxwell

Discover how authentic leadership can transform your family, business, and legacy...

Hey Beautiful Mama!

Chelsey here! ðŸ‘‹

I just returned from an incredible journey that I can't wait to share with you.

Picture this…

Sitting across from John Maxwell himself, one of the world's greatest leadership experts, in an intimate setting where he's sharing his heart about what truly matters in leadership and life.

You know those moments when something just clicks?

When you realize that what you thought was complicated is actually beautifully simple?

That's exactly what happened during these three transformative days.

Let me share a personal story that touched my heart...

During lunch one day, I found myself sitting across from John Maxwell.

Instead of launching into business talk, he looked me in the eyes and asked…

"Is this valuable for you? Are we truly adding value to your journey?"

In that moment, I realized something powerful:

True leadership isn't about titles or position… it's about genuine care and connection.

This brought me back to a time when I was struggling to find my footing as a leader in my own business.

I was so focused on doing things "right" that I forgot the most important thing – leading with heart.

Here's what I discovered about authentic leadership that will transform how you show up in your business and family:

1. Leadership Is Influence, Not Position

Remember being told you need a fancy title to be a leader?

Well, that's just not true. John shared a story about his early days as a young pastor.

Instead of pushing his authority, he chose to serve and connect with key influencers in his church.

He'd show up at their farms on Mondays, roll up his sleeves, and work alongside them.

Your Action Step:

Identify one person in your sphere of influence this week.

How can you serve them authentically?

Sometimes it's as simple as a thoughtful message or offering help without being asked.

2. The Power of Being a "Plus" in People's Lives

Are you giving or taking in your relationships?

John emphasized that we're either adding or subtracting value in every interaction.

Think about your last few conversations – were you focused on what you could get, or what you could give?

Your Action Step:

Keep a small gratitude journal this week.

Write down one way you added value to someone's life each day.

It could be as simple as sending an encouraging text or sharing a resource that helped you.

3. Standing Out Through Authentic Connection

One story that really struck me was about a reporter who wanted to interview Warren Buffett.

Instead of just showing up for her 15-minute slot, she researched and discovered his favorite drink – Cherry Coke.

She brought him an ice-cold Cherry Coke to the interview.

That simple, thoughtful gesture turned her 15-minute interview into a 90-minute conversation.

Your Action Step:

Think about one unique way you can connect with your clients or family this week.

What small, meaningful gesture could make them feel truly seen and valued?

The Beautiful Truth About Leadership

Here's what I want you to remember, mama…

Leadership isn't about being perfect.

It's about being present, authentic, and willing to serve others.

You're already leading… in your home, in your business, in your community.

The question is: how can you lead with more heart?

Your Deep Work Challenge This Week:

Block out two 90-minute sessions of uninterrupted time this week. Use this time to:

  • Write personal notes to three people who have influenced your journey

  • Plan one meaningful experience for your family or team

  • Reflect on your leadership style and identify one area where you can add more value

Remember…

Legacy isn't what you leave behind.

It's what you leave in others.

Every small act of leadership, every moment of genuine connection, is building your legacy right now.

With love and gratitude,
Chelsey Diaz
